December 29th, 2016 | Tips and Tricks
As of December 2016, there are 154 known pokemon in Pokemon Go: 146 Generation I pokemon, seven Generation II babies and one Generation II pokemon Togetic, which can be evolved from baby Togepi.
Pokemon Go Generation I Pokemon
At first, Pokemon Go Pokedex only contained records of Generation I pokemon. Generation I consists of 151 pokemon, but five of them – Articuno (#144), Zapdos (#145), Moltres (#146), Mewtwo (#150) and Mew (#151) – are still not released into the Pokemon Go game. In addition, some of the Generation I pokemon are region specific, so you can only catch them in a certain geographic area. Region specific pokemon are:
- Farfetch’d (#083) – Asia
- Mime (#122) – Europe
- Kangaskhan (#115) – Australia
- Tauros (#128) – North America
Pokemon Go Generation II Pokemon
Some of the Generation II pokemon were released in December 2016 – there are currently seven baby pokemon available, and it is also possible to evolve Togepi into Togetic, which brings the total number of currently available Gen 2 pokemon to eight.
Generation I and Generation II Pokedex entries are part of a much larger catalogue – the National Pokedex, which contains 721 records.
